Week Eight Pregnancy

The Baby –

• Now almost the size of a kidney bean or gummy bear.
• s/he can now wiggle and bend with toes, fingers, knees and elbows
• No tail anymore.

You –

• Peeing again and again
• Not sleeping full night properly, despite being so tired

You might be prone to sciatic pain on the back of your legs by expanding uterus which pressurizes the nerve. Some women feel it only occasionally or during sometimes in pregnancy.  You must definitely have scheduled your prenatal visit. Your first visit will have a pelvic exam, urine test, some blood tests, and the family’s health history.

You will get your hormone levels tested with blood tests. It will also test other things to your doctor like blood count, blood type, immunity, Rh factor, and you will also be testing for HIV, Hepatitis B and syphilis. Doctors may also test family histories and ethnic backgrounds of you and your partner for next genetic screenings (i.e. especially for things like cystic fibrosis, sickle-cell and Tay-Sachs).

It goes without saying that all these things are fun because ‘surprise’ is all you want off your visits. You might be able to hear the heartbeat of your little one with a Doppler by week 10.
